Happy Halloween!

This is Jack's first Halloween. We are staying around the house this year but I am sure that next year and years to come we will be out and about. Here are a few pictures I took of Jack in his Halloween outfit.

One Month

Jack was a month old yesterday. It's amazing how fast time is flying already. Everyone has always told me not to take any moments for granted bc they will grow up before you know it, and I believe it. We have had a good first month with our son. At first, right after we came home was a big adjustment. We had to get used to little sleep, which we are still getting used to, we also had to figure out his eating. My plan before I had him was to breastfeed and I gave it my best shot. Breastfeeding is hard, people had told me that the first few weeks were hard but to stick with it because it would get easier. Well with him being so little when he was born it made us nervous. I tried my best to breastfeed, but as soon as he would be finished, he would be hungry a few minutes later. It was like he wasn't getting enough from me. He kept losing weight and that stressed us out, we couldn't relax. We finally started using bottles. I am pumping now and we give him some breast milk and some formula and it is working out great, we are all much more relaxed.
We went today for his 1 month doctors appointment and it went great. He now weighs 7lbs, he weighed 5lbs 12 oz at birth, when we left the hospital he was down to 5lbs 2oz and then lost down to 4lbs 14oz. We were thrilled with his weight gain and so was the doctor. He was also 20 1/4 in. long, he was 18in at birth. We were so happy to hear that our little man is growing.
At one month he is following things and voices with his eyes more. When Rob or I talk to him looks at us and will sometimes follow our voices. He also gives us a smile every now and then, which I am sure is due to gas but I sure do love to see it. We have done just a little bit of tummy time, he doesn't last very long. Whenever I put him on my shoulder to burp him, he always tries to lift his head and he's pretty good at it. When we lay him on his play mat he can't lift his head, not even a little yet. He eats about every 3 hours sometimes 2. He is pretty much a very happy baby.
We are SO incredibly blessed to have this little boy in our lives. When I look at him sometimes I can't believe he is all mine. We are enjoying every second with our little guy, we are so in love with him. We look forward to watching him grow!

Birthday Boys!

September 27th is also my dads birthday. When I was pregnant we would say how neat it would be if Jack were born on my dads birthday and sure enough he was. As I was in labor we thought for a little bit that Jack would be born the day before, but as it got closer to midnight we knew that he would share his Papa's birthday. I think that it is really special that he now shares his birthday with his Papa. What a neat birthday present to have your grandson born on your birthday. You can tell that Papa is so in love with Jack and Jack loves his Papa very much already. Jack has his MaeMae, his Papa and his Pop, he is so lucky to have such amazing grandparents!

Coming Home!

We were in the hospital until Thursday morning. One of our friends Anna is a nurse at the hospital and she was our discharge nurse. We couldn't believe that we were actually going home as a family of three. It was a very exciting and somewhat scary day. Not scary as in bad, but just we are now in charge of this little person. We got things packed up, got Jack dressed in his going home daygown. My great aunt Patsy made the daygown. She made them for my sister Anna's twins. Anna sent me the gown that Cole & William wore home. We are just going to pass it down between the boys in the family. It was so crazy loading Jack into the car and driving off with him, he was really ours :).
My mom went and stayed at our house Wednesday night so she could already be there when we got home on Thursday. She left on that Friday, so we had the weekend to ourselves and then she came back the following Monday and stayed the whole week. It was SO wonderful having her here. She cooked, cleaned and helped me with Jack. She even let me get out of the house one day to go get a pedicure. She is absolutely wonderful, I don't know if I could have made it without her especially since this parent thing is new to me and Rob, it was great having mom around to visit with and if I had any questions she was right there. I was sad to see her leave at the end of the week, but I knew it was time for us to try this parent thing on our own. Here are a few more pictures, I hope you enjoy. I'm trying to catch up on all my posts.

Visitors

Like I said in the previous post, it was such a long day. Our hospital stay was great. Later in the morning on Tuesday we started to have visitors. It was so wonderful to see everyone and we feel so blessed to have the friends and family that we do. It meant a lot to us that people wanted to come visit and see our son.

Jack's Birth Story Continued

Everyone was waiting in the waiting room just dying to hear if Jack had made his arrival yet. Anna kept texting Rob to get an update.

Once I started pushing it only took about an hour before Jack made his appearance. It was the most incredible overwhelming experience. I have never been filled with such intense emotion. It was truly amazing. I couldn't believe that after almost two years of trying to get pregnant and after nine months of pregnancy that we were finally holding our son. He was absolutely perfect. We couldn't believe how tiny he was, he only weighed 5lbs 12oz. He was born at 1:50a.m. on September 27, 2011 which also happens to be his Papa's, my dads, birthday. How special is that?! The whole birth experience was great, I couldn't have wished for anything to go any better. We are so very blessed!

SO IN LOVE!

It was such a long but exciting day. We worked all day Monday, went into the hospital Monday night at 6pm and had a baby at 1:50a.m Tuesday morning. We had no sleep until Wednesday morning. After I had Jack and they got him all cleaned up and got us to another room it was already 4 in the morning. I had too much adrenaline going to sleep and then by that time we started having visitors. It was such a crazy and amazing day.

Our family of 3 :)

Jack Leslie, we are so blessed and honored to be your parents. Who knew that we could love someone as much as we love you! You have truly blessed our lives. We are excited and can't wait to see where this journey takes us. We look forward to watching you grow.
